COMPLETE UPPER AND LOWER DENTURES
What are complete upper and lower dentures?
Complete upper and or lower dentures, also known as full upper or full lower dentures or simply upper and or lower dentures, are removable dental prosthetics designed to replace all of the teeth in the upper and or lower arch of the mouth. They are typically used when a patient has lost all of their natural teeth in the upper and or lower part of the jaw due to decay, gum disease, trauma, or other reasons.
Complete upper and lower dentures consist of a pink acrylic base that resembles the gums and artificial teeth made from materials like acrylic resin or porcelain. The base of the denture rests on the gums and is custom-made to fit the patient's mouth comfortably and securely. Some dentures may also utilize suction or dental adhesives to help hold them in place.
These types of dentures aim to restore the functionality and aesthetics of the mouth by providing support for the lips and cheeks, facilitating chewing, improving speech, and preventing the collapse of facial muscles that can occur after tooth loss. They are removable for easy cleaning and maintenance, though they may require adjustments over time for optimal fit and comfort. Additionally, some individuals may need time to adjust to wearing lower dentures, especially if they have been without teeth for a period of time.
